The lauIts occurring in the rear a_le become apparant as noise. overheating. Ieakage or drive shalf breakage.
The noise is usually 'in the _orm of a growling or whining sound.

Wrong fype ol oil used in rear a_le. Drain oll all fhe oil. Inspecf the rear 8_le,
Flush ouf fhe rear a_le hous_ing. Fill with hypoid oil.
Oil level too Iow. Top-up with oil. _
E_cessive bearing tension of gears or drive sfatf. Remove fhe gears (drive shalf) and '
adjusi_ the bearings.
Faulty backlash. Remove the gears. adjust the backlash and tooth
contact in accordance with instructions.
W'orn bearings. Remove the rear a_le gears and _
replace worn bearings. _
Distorted rear a_Ie housing. Replace.
Disforted rear a_le. RepIace.

First ensure that the sound does not depend on worn universal joinfs.
Worn washers on dilterential gears. Fif new washers.
Dillerential gears or dilIerential shalt worn.
Replace worn parts.
One ol the drive gears is loose on its hub. Tighfen loose nuts.
Worn splines on sfafts or in gears. Replace worn parts.

In case ol leakage. lirst check that the ventiIation hole in the rear a_le housing is not blocked_ _
l.eakage at drive sfalt (oil on brake linings). Replace the oil seal inside the bearing and
ffe felf washer.
Leakage at the pinion. Replace oil seal and paper gasket, _
Il necessary. adjusf or replace fhe pinion bearing. _
Leakage between rear a_le housing and Cfeck thaf the sealing surlaces are clean and
inspection cover. smooth. replace the gasket.
