F8u Ity starter motor. Test by disconnecting the battery lead *rom the
solenoid and folding it ag8inst the connection to
the starter motor. If the starter motor does not
function, it must be removed for testing and repair.
It the starter motor does not function, do not hold
the Iead against the terminal for more than a *ew
seconds.
THE _ARTER MO7OR HAS POOR OUTPUT
Battey in poor condition. Test and charge up if nec8ssay.
Large resistance in starter motor circuit.
EKamine all lead connections on the starter motor
and the teads between fhe motor and chass'is.
Make sure that the contact surfaces are clean,
that all cable terminals are well so!dered 8nd
_ tighten the I8ads properly.
Poor contact in control solenoid. Compare the starter motor output with and with-
out the control solenoid by disconnecting the le8d
on the soleno_id and holding it directIy onto tfe
_ starter motor output stud. A faulty control solenoid
must be replaced.
Faulty starter motor. Remove and test the starter motor.

Poor contact or damaged leads. l Inspect all leads between the dynamo, charging
_
control and ba_ey for loose contacts, broken
' leads, poor insulation, corrosion and earthing.
Fan belt worn out or insufficiently tensioned. RepIace or tension the fan belt.
Faulty dynamo. Disconnect the lead for the rotor current and the
Iead to the battery from the chargíng control and
connect an ammeter in series with these. Start
the engine and let it run at id l ing speed. Connect
the terminal for the field current to the dynamo
housing. If the ammeter at tfis stage, and when
the speed is increased, shows too small a reading,
the dynamo must be removed for eKamination Bnd
repair.
